Cummins announces multiyear agreement with Chrysler Group LLC
Cummins Inc. announced a multiyear extension of its current agreement with Chrysler Group LLC. Cummins will supply 6.7-liter Turbo Diesel engines for Ram Heavy Duty pickups and Chassis Cab trucks.
Cummins has produced over 1.7 million Turbo Diesel engines for Dodge Ram Heavy Duty trucks since 1989. Today, over 80 percent of Ram Heavy Duty truck customers purchase their truck with the legendary Cummins Turbo Diesel.
The first Cummins Turbo Diesel was used in the 1989 Dodge Ram, with projected sales of less than 5,000 engines. Actual sales exceeded 20,000 engines in the first year, signaling to the market that a powerful new combination had been created.
The first Cummins Turbo Diesel was a 5.9 liter at 160 hp (119 kW) and 400 lb-ft (542 N•m) of torque. Today’s 6.7-liter Turbo Diesel delivers 350 hp (261 kW) and 650 lb-ft (881 N•m) of torque. This 118 percent increase in horsepower and 86 percent increase in torque have been achieved while also reducing exhaust emissions by 90 percent. In 2007, Dodge and Cummins produced the cleanest heavy-duty diesel pickup in the market by meeting U.S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 2010 emissions levels a full three years in advance.
With this extension, Cummins keeps growing its partnership with Chrysler, which began 21 years ago.
Daimler Trucks donates 20 Fuso Canter trucks for aid operations in Haiti’s earthquake region
Taimler Trucks is supporting the people of Haiti by promptly sending them 20 Fuso Canter trucks worth over half a million Euros. The trucks were handed over to the Haiti aid initiative of former US President Bill Clinton.
Andreas Renschler, the Daimler AG Board of Management member responsible for Daimler Trucks and Daimler Buses, commented, “Everyone who looks at the images coming out of Haiti is asking himself, ‘What can I do?’ And trucks are what we do best. We’re happy that with this donation we can help to provide the people of Haiti with urgently needed aid materials. The global presence of Daimler Trucks is an advantage for us here, because we’ve been able to access at short notice the Fuso Canter trucks that are already in the region.”
Thanks to their high payload capacity, Fuso Canter trucks are ideal for distributing aid materials in the refugee camps. And because of their agility the Canter trucks will be able to travel reliably through devastated areas and along roads blocked by wreckage in order to reach even distant camps.
The aid organizations are pointing out the crucial importance of the reliable distribution of food, some of which is liable to spoilage, and the fact that transport vehicles are therefore urgently needed. Daimler Trucks — the world’s largest globally operating truck manufacturer — believes that this situation calls for its expertise in transport mobility.
Volvo Buses has secured an order for 323 coaches in Mexico. Most of these will be delivered in 2010.
Mexico is a large country and the coach is the most important mean of transport for long journeys. For Volvo Buses, Mexico is one of the largest markets in the world.
The order for 323 coaches is from the customer IAMSA, which has the largest bus fleet in Mexico, with about 10,000 buses and coaches, of which approximately 2,400 are Volvo coaches.
Volvo and IAMSA have close cooperation and, prior to this order, a number of work groups were involved in identifying the solutions required by IAMSA for its business. These included the specifications for the coaches, financial solutions and aftermarket issues.
The order is for the Volvo 9700. Half of the coaches will be equipped with Volvo’s 12-liter engine and half with the new, more fuel-efficient 13-liter engine. The latter meets the strict new environmental requirements according to Euro 5, which was introduced in Europe in October. In Mexico, only Euro 4 is required today. IAMSA is one of the companies in the world that has participated in the field-testing of the 13-liter engine, which will be introduced in Mexico this year.
The buses will be manufactured in Volvo Buses’ plant in Mexico City.
